Remembering Eleanor Perenyi

“As I look about me, I have reason to believe I belong to a vanishing species. Gardens like mine, which go by the unpleasing name of ‘labor intensive,’ are on their way out and before they go, I would like to contribute my penny’s worth to their history.”
“I can’t resist them (asters, in this case) and invariably let optimism get the better of judgment, which come to think of it may be the first principle of gardening.”
These are two of my absolute favorite quotes about gardening, both written by the phenomenal Eleanor Perenyi. Ms. Perenyi passed away yesterday, but we are all lucky indeed that she chose to grace us with her wit and wisdom about gardening.
Here is a post I wrote for the Garden Bloggers Book Club back when we read Green Thoughts, as well as a link to the main Book Club post so you can see what others had to say.
She will be missed.

Green Thoughts is one of my favorite books. She covered a lot of green ground. She will be missed indeed.
For those of us who have always gardened… I see your point & agree with you. Possibly though the world will gain more people passionate about their gardens.
