Today’s Giveaway: Win a Fiskars Rain Barrel System!!
by Colleen Vanderlinden • June 25, 2010 • Miscellaneous • 64 Comments
When I was brainstorming ideas for this giveaway, I was really trying to think of those items that I wish everyone had. As I looked around my yard, many things caught my eye, but the most obvious one was my Fiskars rain barrel. I love this thing. The only items I water in my garden are the vegetable beds and porch pots — the rest of my landscape is comprised of drought-tolerant perennials and shrubs. The lawn knows that it must fend for itself, because it doesn’t get any babying from me!
So I tried to think of who I knew at Fiskars. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone. But I do know a garden celebrity who works with them, so I went to Joe Lamp’l and said, “hey Joe — do ya think you can get me a rain barrel to give away?” and he contacted Fiskars, and the next thing I knew, I had a rain barrel system to give away to one of you!
So a humongous, gargantuan thank you to Joe Lamp’l for getting the ball rolling on this giveaway. (Watch his new show — it is awesome!) And another huge thank you to Melissa and everyone else over at Fiskars for working with me on this giveaway. I am so excited about this!
What will one lucky ITGO reader be winning? You’ll be winning one of Fiskars’ awesome rain barrel systems. These not only include a very generously sized, nice-looking rain barrel, but also a gutter diverter system that is very simple to hook up. With all of the storms the last couple of weeks, mine is full right now!
What do you have to do to win? Just leave a comment. You can tell me how much you want this rain barrel, or how awesome you think Joe and Fiskars are, or (what the heck) how awesome you think I am for chasing down garden celebs to get a rain barrel for you
Either way, I need your comment by midnight Eastern, and the winner will be determined by a random number generator. Only residents of the contiguous 48 U.S. states, please. (And I’m kidding– you don’t really need to tell me how awesome I am. Joe and Fiskars are much more awesome than I am!)
Good luck!
UPDATE: Via random number generator, the winner is lucky number 35 — Kare from The Hazel Bloom! Congratulations, Kare! And thanks to everyone who commented! Kare, please get in touch with me via email (colleen at inthegardenonline.com) or on Twitter (c_vanderlinden) to claim your prize!
Huge thanks to the wonderful Joe Lamp’l for all of his help. Please check out his new show, Growing a Greener World, on PBS or online. You can also connect with GGWTV on Twitter and Facebook.
Many, many thanks to Fiskars for their generosity! Please check them out on the web, and connect with them on Facebook and Twitter.

I think it’s great, all these chances to win any of the prizes you offer. We’ve been wanting to install a rain barrel or three for quite a while, and now have a good location to set one up. Thanks again for the opportunity!
@SolakNC
What a neat prize! How neat would it be to have this! {=
Joe’s an incredible guy. When I lived in Atlanta I bought tow Fiskar’s Rain Barrels, one for myself and one for the community garden I started there. Unfortunately with my move to the farm I don’t have either one so I’m shamelessly entering this contest because I’m good enough, I’m smart enough and gosh darnit, I NEED A RAIN BARREL!
Very cool, we’ve been talking about using a system to collect our rain water. Good luck everyone!
Oh, wow, I would SO love this!! We are replacing our gutters this summer and we are hoping to install rain barrels while we’re at it if we can afford it. I would LOVE to have such a stylish and quality rain barrel!
I have been wanting a rain barrel ever since I started my garden! The ones profiled here look great, and your recommendation means a lot. I hope I win!
I will cross my fingers on this one. Our local sewage dept was giving them away a couple years ago and I missed out.
I’ve wanted to try a rain barrel for some time. It looks nice.
I am planning to buy a rain barrel and this one looks great. Hope I win!
I’ve been meaning to set up a rain barrel system all year. And I love Fiskars…I have a tiny pair of their scissors built into my Gerber multi-tool.
Awesome giveaway! I’ve been wanting a rain barrel for a while, I thought about making one but never quite got around it. The Fiskars rain barrel looks very cool!
You are all awesome! I would so love to have a rain barrel, especially since we have had so much rain lately!
I would love to win a rain barrel! We’ve had loads of rain this year, and I just thought the other day that if I had a rain barrel it would be full!
I do have two rain barrels I made myself maybe 5 years ago and they aren’t in great shape. I would love a nice shiny new one, where the water actually drains into my soaker hose. You know I love orange so I’ve been on board with Fiskars since I was knee-high to a colorful expression.
The rain barrel is next on my list of “wants” for my garden – this one looks great and I’d love to have it!
I’ve been wanting a rain barrel forever! I’d love to be able to harness rain water to water my plants, instead of running up my water bill! Thanks so much for a chance to win this!
I actually remember getting my first pair of Fiskars scissors. I was a poor student, so it felt like a huge expenditure. Turned out they were worth it and I’ve stuck with that brand ever since. They make some great gardening scissors, pruners and shears too.
Yep, I’m another one whose always thought about a installing a rain barrel. Besides collecting the water, it would divert it from running into the cellar. I may just have to buy one. LOL. Thanks for taking the initiative to get one to give away.
Oh, I would love a rain barrel. Right now I just have series of tubs and buckets out in the yard to collect rain water, and I have to keep adding vegetable oil to them to suffocate the mosquito larvae. Would love to have a real system, but as a starving student I haven’t been able to foot the bill quite yet. Great prize idea!
This could have been useful for this morning’s rain! This one looks nicer than some of the ones my wife has been eyeing.
Well, all I can say is that you are Awesome for getting the (Awesome) Joe to get the (Awesome) Fiskars company to donate one of their (Awesome) rainbarrels!! It’s all just Awesome;-) Joe was so kind in helping me get one of these for my Earth Day giveaway back in April…but I still don’t have one for myself!! SO…maybe I’ll get lucky and the random number generator will choose my number. That would be Awesome!
This is AWESOME! I had a rigged up rain barrel that my husband took out because it was ugly and attracted bugs. I have been wanting to invest in a few of these for our place to water our flower and herb beds.
Well, this whole thing, all parties involved, is AWESOME! Winning this would just make it all the more AWESOME!
I have been REALLY wanting to get a rain barrel to teach my children about the circle of life! Pick ME!
don’t know Joe personally, but I did win a book of his and have his autograph on it! He seems very congenial.
Rain barrel – well I’m on a mission to get familiar with all the new green tactics to handle rain – rain gardens, green roofs, swales and berms – so a rain barrel of my own would be tres sweet.
thanks for conducting this great giveaway bonanza Jeannie in Sacramento
You are awesome, Fiskars is awesome [um, could I get one of their push mowers instead?
], Twitter is awesome, and garden blogging in general is awesome. Hope we and all your giveways got you lots of new readers. If nothing else, it brought me out of lurkdom on your blog!
This is awesome and would be perfect for my mom’s house. She would love it:0)
Rain barrels are wonderful and so is Fiskars for participating in your giveaway!
I’ve been considering purchasing a rain barrel…why not obtain the cream of the crop free!
If I had a rain barrel, I could keep the rain from making a puddle right where my kids need to walk to get into the car. Gotta look into getting one of those. (If I don’t win of course)
A rain barrel would be an awesome item to win. I store water in big buckets for my veggies and a rain barrel would be much more convenient.
I would LOVE a rain barrel to help water our vegetable garden!
I have long wanted to graduate from 5 gallon buckets lined up under our slate roof.
Love, love all your prize giveaways. You do such an awesome job rounding all these things – or contacts – up. I use a lot of the Fiskars garden hand tools because the grips are easy for my hands. Since I live in the boonies of Oklahoma, would love to have a rain barrel to help not only save the earth’s water but also help keep my plants alive in these hot summer months.
Whimper! I would LOVE to have a rain barrel. I’ve been leaving that spot on the side of the house empty for just such a thing… this one would fit perfectly.
I super want and need a rain barrel. Right now I run a hose from a the bathroom sink down the hall way so I can water my rooftop garden!
This is exactly the kind of thing I keep meaning to get, but something else (vet bills, car battery, other Real Life ARGH Event[tm]) constantly and consistently pre-empts.
It would be awesome to have a rain barrel! There’s been so much rain; it would save getting the hose out all the time.
I’ve wanted a rain barrel forever, but they’re all so expensive! What a great giveaway!
I’ve been contemplating a rain barrel for awhile. Why use up all of our precious clean water when it just fals from the sky? Must. Harvest. Rain.
My girlfriend needs one of these. They are ingenius!
You are awesome for offering a rain barrel. Joe is also awesome; I love his new show and also his old shows Fresh From the Garden and GardenSmart… And Fiskars is the bomb for making and offering the rain barrel which I have a perfect place for
I have been wanting a rain barrel for a couple years now! Great giveaway option!
What a cool rain barrel! And yes, you are awesome!
I NEED A RAIN BARREL!!!!! My husband says it is a luxury item, but I think it is a necessity. especially since the water prices are the highest I have heard of where I live. I didn’t know to put vegetable oil in the buckets to prevent mosquitos. thanks to the comment from above.
I’ve been wanting to buy one of these for the past couple years but money has been tight with other priorities. Thanks for being awesome and giving it away!
I got one of these this spring and it has been awesome for keeping baby plants watered when the big rain storms go around the hill I live on. And the diverter works really well when the big storms don’t go around the hill
I’d love to have another barrel for the opposite corner of the house. Especially if it’s free!
I have no idea what quality this Fiskar’s rain barrel is, but I bought a Fiskar’s hatchet last year for camping and home use and it is the best hatchet I’ve ever owned.
Oooooh, they just installed water meters in our area and I’m dying to get a rain barrel. Our new front yard garden would be a perfect use for it. Pick me, pick me! ;o)
My husband and I tend a mid-sized vegetable garden in our back yard in Oak Park, Michigan. We are constantly looking for ways to recycle our gray water and having a rain barrel would be wonderful. We are both laid off so money is an issue for us. A rain barrel is just not on the priorty list of things to purchase but we sure could use one in our garden. Thanks!
