Spitfire? What Spitfire?

I have decided that I never grew ‘Spitfire’ nasturtiums this year.
No, I haven’t. What are you talking about?
There was no embarrassing lack of design skills on my part.
There were no squirrels that dug up the container, leaving my poor, struggling ‘Spitfires’ lying on the hot porch concrete.
Nope. Never happened.
If it had happened, though, here’s what I’d tell you about ‘Spitfire’ nasturtiums: the blooms are a lovely orange-red that look absolutely perfect in a bright blue pot. The round leaves are possibly the freshest shade of green I’ve ever seen. And had we not had a drought, hot weather for weeks on end, evil squirrels, and a distracted gardener, they would have grown beautifully here. They are tough plants, considering that they lived through everything but the squirrels.
But it never happened. Right? Right. And I’ll prove it. Here’s my blue pot. I don’t see any nasturtiums, do you?

Big thanks to Mr. Brown Thumb for setting up the seed GROW project and Renee’s Garden Seeds for donating the seeds. It’s been fun reading about everyone’s experiences this season!
I’m growing Nasturtium ‘Spitfire’ for the GROW project. Thanks to Renee’s Garden for the seeds.
